Activity :

FYP workshop by Dr. Imran

Objective :

To get an understanding on how to write a FYP proposal report.

Content :

Dr Imran gives an explanation on the structure of complete proposal report for FYP 1 :

-Abstract
-Table content
-Chapter 1: Introduction
-Chapter 2: Literature Reew
-Chapter 3: Methodology
-Chapter 4: Result and Discussion
-Chapter 5: Future work and Conclusion
-Reference
-Appendices

However, during this session he focused on Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

Chapter 1 :
- Background of the project
- Problem statements
- Objectives
- Scope and Limitation

Chapter 2 :
- Articles and Journals
- Purpose of literature review
- Importing elements in Chap. 2

Week 6 (FYP 1)

(11/03/2019 - 15/03/2019)

Activity :

Further research on the project.

Objective :

To get better understanding of the project.

Content/Procedure :

In order to succeed in this project, I have to first select the correct EEG device. There are several devices that can be found in the market which are OpenEEG, Mattel Mindflex, Neurosky Mindset and Emotiv EPOC.

Conclusion :

In conclusion, based on the previous projects, most of them used the commercialized in market EEG device which are the Neurosky Mindset and Emotiv EPOC. This is because to develop such device on our own would be very time consuming. Plus, the developer tools also contain the basic algorithm to process the raw EEG waveform.

Week 5 (FYP 1)

(04/03/2019 - 08/03/2019)

Activity :

Project title confirmation

Objective :

1.       To lock the project title and key it in the FYP UniKL BMI website.

Content/Procedure :

After further review and discussion, I have decided to finalize my project title which is “ The Development of EEG-Controlled Wheelchair Prototype”. The purpose of this project is to aid people who are partially paralyzed easier to move. For instance, people who are paralyzed from bottom half of their body.

Synopsis

This project discuss about a mind controlled wheelchair which uses the captured signals from the brain and processes it to control the wheelchair. Electroencephalography (EEG) technique will be applied, that place an electrode cap on the user's scalp for the acquisition of the EEG signals which are captured and translated into movement commands by the Arduino microcontroller. With this entire system, we can move a mechanical device such as wheelchair according to the human thoughts.

Conclusion :

The final project topic and synopsis has been submitted to the supervisor to be keyed in the FYP website.

Week 4 (FYP 1)

(25/2/2019 - 1/3/2019)

Activity:

Present my selected project to the supervisor.

Objective :

1. To present my understanding on the EEG wheelchair to my SV.

Content :

A BCI based control system is usually composed of five main units : signal acquisition unit, signal processing unit, feature extraction unit, classification unit, and action unit that controls motors of the wheelchair.

Conclusion :

In conclusion, my supervisor has given me approval to proceed with the topic and requested me to do further research.
